Ahmed Ijaz Mian

| Constantly on the move during his upbringing, Ahmed has lived
in several cities throughout Ontario, Canada, Northern California,
and the Bay Area, and has developed a talent for adapting rapidly
yet calmly to new situations. His unconditional love for his
mother and elder brother has played a vital role in shaping
his intensely loyal and dependable personality. He is a natural
leader with a balance of ambition and humility that stems from
the wisdom of his mother: neyki kar, darya me dal or perform
a good deed, then throw it in the river. Ahmed believes that
this idea of selflessly doing a good deed without seeking recognition
builds character and helps him realize what is important in
his life. He displays a respect and concern for the people around
him; inspiring admiration and trust in the Quest Scholars that
he mentored for two consecutive programs. These motivated students
see in him a role model of composed strength and genuine kindness.
A nationally recognized photographer, Ahmed explains that he
enjoys capturing the emotional essence of a single moment on
film. He studies Political Science and English at the University
of California Davis where he will be a senior in the fall. Aspiring
to be an attorney, he became intrigued with law as a result
of his extensive experience as a mental health worker in a busy
hospital where he developed a passion for protecting the often-disregarded
rights of mental patients. His creativity and enthusiasm for
law was manifest in Phi Alpha Delta, the world's largest pre-law
international co-ed academic fraternity he helped charter as
a junior at UCLA. Though he works with efficiency and professionalism,
his extra-curricular interests comprise a no less valid part
of his life. These include music, watching Indian movies (especially
those featuring his favorite actor, Amitabh Bachchan), and having
fun with his friends. |
